SMED/ CHO -Single Minute Exchange of Die and Quick changeover – Training & Workshop

Objective: This program aims to provide information and create working skills at the level of practitioners, according to the SMED method, to all people involved, from production planner to setter and equipment operators.

Activity description

  • The activity will be divided into several phases:
  • Initial assessment: why we need SMED
  • Basic SMED training,
  • Support for the projects assigned by the management: CHO process analysis and CHO process improvement.

Phase 1: Initial assessment

  • What is the need of the company
  • What types of equipment have changeovers and an estimation regarding: average changeover time and frequency
  • Selecting a representative equipment for the pilot project.
  • Preparing the existing data and changeover video material for the selected machine.

Phase 2: SMED training

  • SMED meaning & definition
  • The 5 steps of the SMED technique
  • The 7 SMED assistance techniques

Phase 3: Workshop  

  • Changeover video-analysis
  • Improvement proposals, management decision
  • Implementation and follow-up: for each project the trainer will perform 3 coaching sessions, ones a week, on-site/ on-line. A final presentation will be presented to local management.

  • Presentation, examples, discussions, exercises and case study

Duration:   

5-10 days, according projects complexity  

Target group:  

It is recommended that all those involved in the product change of a pilot machine to participate in this program: 1-2 senior operators, line leader, area production manager, process engineer, maintenance technician, production planner etc.
